Title: Sydney Bus services wont accept Responsibility
Category: general
Blog Entry: Hi, My name is Geoff and I am Yasmines Partner from Yassage. Not sure if you all use the bus in the mornings, but the other day I was fed up with using the bus and noticed not one school student would stand up for any adult. I use the 400 bus along with Students from Rose Bay schools and Brigedine college in Waverly You may like to know that part of the requirements of holding a FREE bus pass is that they stand up for adults when they are travelling free of charge. I emailed Sydney buses the other day and spoke to Ryan (i think that was his name) and was joyfully told that it is the responsibility of the school and NOT sydney buses if students dont stand up for adults. What is disturbing about this is, that when I suggested the bus inspectors travel in the morning to discourage students, there seemed to be no interest in trying this(they were only interested in revenue raising). Added to that, I complained last year and a woman spokesperson who called me back, told me that ALL busdrivers are aware that they can ask students to stand up. In defence of Ryan, I did accept his reasoning of drivers not leaving their cabin to stop the bus to call out students who were sitting down. I did tell him that drivers can often (when the bus is not in motion) stand up in their cabin and ask students to stand up. But once again, students sitting down is NOT the responsibility of Sydney Buses, so they wont do it. As a passenger on a public bus, YOU DO have the right to ask students to stand up - Coogee-ites please do this and try to start changing a few attitudes ..... Geoff
